The future of Los Angeles deserves better.​ ​ With 1 in 5 of LA's community college population and 1 in 10 of those enrolled in Cal State University suffering from housing insecurity, it's up to us as a community to enact change. ​ ​ ​ By partnering with private landowners near campus, Our Backyard Homes can provide the link in the chain of change. Our portable micro-homes wheel into pockets of available residential space--without the landowner lifting a finger. Each micro-home is infrastructure-independent, meaning all of its power, water, and sewage is taken care of without utilities hookups. Our Backyard Homes designs, funds, and builds the homes. Our scholarship program is a reward to students persevering despite housing insecurity. Soon we'll kick off a pilot program to house a handful of these students through our housing scholarship program. ​ Using financial contributions, community partnerships, and volunteer help, Our Backyard Homes will construct portable micro-dwellings, placing qualifying residents in proximity to campus courtesy of our landowner partnership program. residential land into micro-unit living space. ​
